In fact, the two cities received over a third of the votes when landlords were asked which city represents the best investment opportunity. The research was commissioned by landlord insurance provider, Simply Business.
This result could be influenced by the 1.8% drop in London house prices last year. Landlords may now be recognising the opportunity to acquire more properties in the capital.
The research results show that the top cities for BTL investment in 2020 are:
1. London and Manchester (joint first)
2. Birmingham and Liverpool (joint second)
“It’s great to see that there is so much interest in BTL properties in London,” says Jason Dyer of JTM Homes, north London property specialist. ”Landlords have faced lots of changes recently, affecting the viability of some rental properties. There are still many exciting opportunities for landlords who would like to let properties in north London.”
According to Bea Montoya from Simply Business, a quarter of landlords are planning to sell at least one property this year, largely due to government reform and tax changes.
