Temporary Stamp Duty Holiday

Are you unsure whether now is the right time to buy a property?

Well, after Rishi Sunak’s recent announcement, there has never been a better time to buy property than now!

On 8 July, the UK government stated that a temporary stamp duty holiday will come in with immediate effect, meaning that those completing on a main residence costing up to £500,000 between 8 July and 31 March will not pay any stamp duty. For those unaware, stamp duty is a tax paid by people buying properties. Prior to 8 July, there was no stamp duty on transactions below £125,000, so by increasing the threshold to £500,000 it will make a huge difference for buyers. In addition, transactions above £500,000 will only be taxed on their value above that amount.

Overall, this temporary period of tax efficiency means that if you are a prospective buyer, then you should definitely complete on your property before 31st March 2021 so you can benefit from this.
